This months Full Moon will fall on Friday the 13th which is rare.Friday the 13th may be bad luck for some, for witches and Pagans it’s often considered a magical date. After all, Friday is named for Freyja, a Norse goddess of fertility (sometimes called Frigg). The ancient Egyptians associated the number thirteen with immortality, there were twelve steps on the ladder to eternal life and knowledge; the thirteenth step meant going through death into everlasting life. Upper-class Romans required thirteen guests to be present at weddings as did the Norse vikings. Finally, thirteen has a strong association with the moon for modern Pagans and Wiccans. There are thirteen lunar cycles each year, and many of us celebrate the Full Moons with an Esbat rite. Thirteen is the traditional number of witches in a coven.

BUDDHISM- A WAY OF LIFEBuddhism is a 2,500 years old spiritual tradition that encourages the practice of personal spiritual development and giving a deeper meaning and perspective into one’s life.  Buddhism is beyond religion, it is perceived as a way of life. The two prominent Buddhist sects are Theravada Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism, though there are numerous more.Buddhism preaches how all life is interconnected and therefore, love and compassion are a natural calling. There are around 376 million followers of this religion today worldwide.Buddha was not a god and neither did he claim to be. He was born as Siddhartha Gautama into a royal family in Lumbini, (present day Nepal) in 563 BC. At the mere age of 29, he had an epiphany that wealth and luxuries would not yield ultimate happiness. It was then, that he decided to explore the different teaching religions and philosophies of the day in order to decipher the key to real happiness.Eventually, after years of study and meditation he finally found enlightenment. He devoted the rest of his life to teaching the principles of Buddhism, namely- the Dhamma or Truth. He taught the path to enlightenment through his own experience. The Buddha died at the age of 80.Real Buddhism is very tolerant and does not preach labels like ‘Christian’, ‘Moslem’, ‘Hindu’ or ‘Buddhist’; this is one of the main reasons as to why there have never been any wars fought in the name of Buddhism. The core concepts in Buddhism can be summarized by the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.

How quickly we forget – How Muslims Helped Ireland During The Great Famine
Ireland was ridden with famine and disease between 1845 and 1849. Also known as the Great Hunger, this famine had lasting effects: at least one million people died due to famine-related diseases and more than one million Irish fled, mainly to the United States, England, Canada, and Australia.
The Islamic State (Ottoman) ruler at that time Sultan Khaleefah Abdul-Majid declared his intention to send £10,000 sterling to Irish farmers but Queen Victoria requested that the Sultan send only £1,000 sterling, because she had sent only £2,000 sterling herself. The Sultan sent the £1,000 sterling but also secretly sent 3 ships full of food. The British administration tried to block the ships, but the food arrived secretly at Drogheda harbour.
This generous charity from a Muslim ruler to a Christian nation is also important, particularly in our time when Muslims are often unfairly accused of human rights violations. Likewise, the appreciative plaque and overall reaction of the Irish society in return for this charity deserves to be applauded. We hope that the Turkish-Irish friendship sets a model for peace among different nations.
In commemoration of the Ottoman aid, Drogheda added the Ottoman crescent and star to its coat of arms. Their football club’s emblem retains this design til this day.
